Return-trip templates

The first trip's itinerary was written by every top-ten list at once. From trip two onward, better shapes exist. Five templates we keep reusing — adjust durations to taste, keep the shapes.

1. The contrast pair (10–14 days)

Two opposite regions, one flight between: mountains + islands (North then Andaman), or megacity + Mekong (Bangkok deep, then Isaan's river towns). Three-to-five nights per base, one travel day between. The contrast does the work — each half tastes stronger against the other.

2. The deep single (2–4 weeks)

One region, inhabited: a Chiang Mai month with loop excursions, a Krabi-province island-per-week crawl, an Isaan drive circuit. One base or a slow chain, a routine (morning market, midday rest, evening explore), and the region's calendar of small events. This is where trips stop being trips.

3. The festival anchor (7–12 days)

Pick the festival (calendar), book the festival town first and early, then build backwards: Yi Peng in Chiang Mai + Mae Hong Son loop; Vegetarian Festival + Phuket's quiet coasts; rocket festival + Isaan circuit. The festival provides the peak; the region provides the rest.

4. The food pilgrimage (any length)

Route by cuisine, not sights: Bangkok's Chinatown and boat-noodle alleys → Ayutthaya's river prawns → Isaan's grilled-chicken towns → close on southern curries. One famous dish per day, markets every morning, a cooking class per region. Literacy required and rewarded.

5. The slow South sampler (10–14 days)

One coast per the season, three islands maximum, descending size: big base island → mid island → tiny finale. Ferries not flights within the chain; the last island has no plans at all. Come home actually rested — a novelty.
